INTRODUCTION: 

Boart Longyear (BLY) is a global mineral exploration company. It is headquarters in Salt Lake City, Utah with  operations around the globe. The company provides mineral exploration services and drilling products for  the global mining industry and has a presence in drilling water exploration, environmental sampling, energy,  and oil sands exploration. 

Boart Longyear Tanzania Limited is a company involved in providing drilling services, drilling equipment  and performance tooling for mining, and drilling to companies. The company has several drilling sites where  the company’s operations are carried out. The company also provides management support to other BLY  group affiliates in Africa. 

PURPOSE OF THE POST: 

Boart Longyear Tanzania Ltd is seeking a Tax Specialist who will be responsible for the tax compliance for  the Tanzania and for other African countries that is to help design and implement tax policies and strategies and evaluate managerial processes to ensure compliance with relevant statutes and regulatory codes. Tax  specialist is also responsible for the filing of all the tax returns (direct tax, indirect tax, payroll tax…). The  position also requires building up and maintaining strong relationships with the local tax administrations. While the role primarily consists in the preparation of the tax returns, it also requires working closely and  supporting the other members of Tax Department and the other functions at Boart Longyear. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  

• University Degree in Tax accounting, or related field.  
• At least 3 years of professional experience with a large accounting firm or equivalent tax department  with knowledge of the fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures of taxation. 
• Experience working in a regional role, with exposure to different African countries.
• Must be able to follow established procedures while performing assigned tasks. 
• Must demonstrate strong time management skills and be able to effectively prioritize and complete  multiple assignments/projects within established deadlines.  
• Must be self-motivated, detail oriented, and organized.  
• Requires good verbal and written communication skills, analytical skills, and interpersonal skills.  •
• Must be able to develop and maintain a relationship network within the Company and externally  (clients, administrations…). 
• Must be fluent in English, French as a plus. 
• Oracle knowledge as a plus.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS: 

Tax returns management, including tax returns country specific such Service Levy Council in  Tanzania 

• Tax returns preparation
• Tax returns filing
• Tax returns payment follow up
• Tax refund requests filing and follow up

Tax internal controls performance 

• Performance of internal controls as indicated in the control’s narratives
• Ensuring the proper controls performance when these ones are performed by other  functions (Finance, Supply Chain…)

Ad Hoc ITX tasks 

• Tax accounting entries coordination with Finance team
• Support to other functions (Finance, Legal, Supply Chain…)

Ad Hoc support to Tax Managers / Directors 

• Tax audits
• Social Security audits
• CIT returns preparation
• Transfer Pricing returns preparation

Relationships with Tax Administrations 

• Periodical visits at the tax administration’s premises
• Follow up by phone / email
• Company’s account statement at TAs – Reconciliation
